Architect Tszwai So transforms Taipei’s cityscape with The Blue Hotel, a groundbreaking project reimagining a 1970s building from Taiwan’s White Terror era. Guided by the Emotionalism art movement, So adopts a ‘design-as-you-go’ approach, converting waste materials into innovative artworks and furnishings.
The hotel, designed as a dynamic space, houses 59 guestrooms, an upcoming restaurant, and a public art venue. Inspired by psychogeography, the design reflects the old town of Taipei, creating a unique sense of place.
The building’s façade, adorned with layers of blue glaze, pays homage to local heritage and artist Yves Klein, while the lobby doubles as an art space, featuring collaborative works by over 50 global artists and architects. The Blue Hotel narrates a tale of forward-thinking and circularity, turning discarded materials into a vibrant testament to Emotionalism’s global impact.
