A diptych masterpiece by the late artist Brice Marden, titled “Event,” is poised to shatter auction records at Christie’s in May. The large-scale canvas, part of the series “The Propitious Garden of Plane Image,” is estimated to fetch between $30 million and $50 million. This anticipated sale, dedicated to 20th and 21st-century works, could establish a new record for Marden. The painting, created between 2004 and 2007, will be publicly displayed for the first time in 17 years at Art Dubai before the auction. Marden’s previous record was set at $30.9 million in 2020 for “Complements.”
