Omega introduces a new iteration of its iconic Speedmaster Moonwatch, showcasing a lacquered white dial that pays homage to the brand’s rich history in space exploration. Originally seen on Daniel Craig in November, the watch is now officially unveiled, set to hit the market soon. The 42 mm stainless-steel timepiece houses the advanced Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861 movement, an updated version of the Calibre 321 trusted by astronauts during moon missions.
The standard version features a vintage-inspired stainless-steel bracelet, while optional upgrades include a black micro-perforated leather strap with red and white stitching or an anti-bacterial rubber strap with a moon-surface pattern underneath. Departing from the original 1957 design, the Moonwatch’s white lacquered dial is complemented by black detailing and applied indexes, with the red script of the Speedmaster name adding a pop of color beneath Omega’s logo.
This distinctive color scheme not only offers a fresh take on the classic Speedmaster design but also honors the Moonwatch’s storied legacy in space. Officially utilized by NASA astronauts since 1965 and famously worn on the moon, the black-and-white theme recalls astronaut spacesuits, with red accents reminiscent of commander rank markings. Omega draws inspiration from its 1969 collaboration with NASA on the Alaska I prototype, featuring a white dial for optimal thermal reflection and a protective red case.
Priced at a minimum of $8,100, the new Moonwatch caters to space enthusiasts, offering a symbolic connection to the legacy of space exploration.
